"RitschArt" originally was a project in 3rd semester at the University of Applied Sciences in Graz. Inspired by the traditional bohemian dish "Ritschert" Luise Kloos, an Austrian artist, had the idea of publishing a book which shows artworks of artists and students focusing on food, history and (political) society over the past 100 years. The impact for this project was the year 2018 which reminds of the end of the first world war in 1918. Since the begin of second world war in 1938 and the Prague spring in 1968 these years were dramatically defining our european history as well. Therefore the content builds kind of a time journey around the years 1918, 1938, 1968 and 2018.
My work of the empty plate was selected to become the book cover. The concept: Whereas Ritschert used to be a simple dish it can be considered as a symbol of a time where people were poor and starving and had no option for food waste. They took what they get and used leftovers as well. This total reduction inspired me to reduce it again and keep the only leftover you can't remove: the plate. Simply the quiet stroke around the border captures the dates again and builds a connection.
The original soup with all its ingredients can be found in the book as well.
